Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>US electric vehicle maker Tesla\u2019s Megapack battery plant began production on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Tesla\u2019s Shanghai mega-factory in the Ling-gang Special Area started its operations with an opening ceremony, according to Tesla, which is owned by US billionaire and advisor to the US government Elon Musk.<\/p>\n

The plant will produce Tesla\u2019s Megapack rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Megapacks can store up to four megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity.<\/p>\n

Tesla aims to create a total energy storage capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) with an annual production capacity of 10,000 units.<\/p>\n

The construction of Tesla\u2019s Shanghai mega-factory battery plant was completed with a $202 million investment and eight months of construction on an area of 200,000 square meters.<\/p>\n

Tesla signed an agreement with Shanghai\u2019s local administration in December 2023 to allocate land for the mega-factory, and construction began in May 2024.<\/p>\n

Tesla\u2019s California mega-factory produces 10,000 Megapacks a year.<\/p>\n
