Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Water Hon. Nkaku Kabi through the Lesotho Lowlands Water Supply Project (LLWSP) officially handed-over the supply of clean water and toilets to the community of Mapoteng Ha-Chere on<\/p>\n

Wednesday. The Director of Rural Water Supply (RWS) Felix Malachamela showed that the Ha-Rachere community is very fortunate to have plenty of water in their area compared to other places where there is<\/p>\n

lack of wetlands. He encouraged them to not to interrupt with the wetlands either by burning the grass or cutting the populous trees that are present in<\/p>\n

the place so that the wetlands can keep on thriving. \u201cThe constructed catchment which combines all the used wetlands holds 7500 litres of water that supply 14<\/p>\n

taps, this taps will transfer water to more than 500 households in the community. Apart from that there are also 25 toilets which were included in the project, to<\/p>\n

assist the vulnerable people,\u201dMalachamela stated. Ha-Rachere Area Chief Lekoro Rachere indicated that it has been a long time since Ha-Rachere community has been without<\/p>\n

clean water and fetching it in the nearby wells. \u201cWhat is happening for us is like a nightmare, we have been hoping for machinery for the supply of clean<\/p>\n

water as there are huge wetlands in this area. However, we are grateful this year that we will drink clean water for the rest of our lives as our water tank<\/p>\n

and wetlands are in good condition,\u201d he stated. Ha-Rachere water committee chairperson Tumahole Mohapi urged the community to take care of the supply system, saying<\/p>\n

they worked too hard to eventually receive the supply. \u201cMy recommendation to the community is to take care of the project. We worked in cooperation with the<\/p>\n

contractor; there are no queries concerning him because he handed over all the required working equipment to the committee. As the community we promise to<\/p>\n

keep this project and we will look after it at all costs, it is our duty to protect it,\u201d he said. Mohapi further stated that among necessary developments<\/p>\n

needed in this area, the construction of roads and electricity installation are at the top of the list. For his part, Kabi indicated that the ministry is pleased for the completion of this project because they clearly<\/p>\n

know the suffering of fetching water from the remote areas especially on the side of the elders, and they also know that no one can withstand the pain of<\/p>\n

getting thirsty. \u201cWe are currently experiencing climate change crisis, and this has affected the norms of proper grazing and keeping the pastures green.<\/p>\n

Therefore this place is fortunate to have permanent wetlands which keep water throughout the year even without the rainfall,\u201d Kabi said. Kabi further addressed the vulnerable<\/p>\n

part of the community who received the toilets and advised the chief and the community councilor that when performing duties like these, they should direct<\/p>\n

the support to the needy. He also acknowledged the work of the contractor. When responding to the request of bringing other services, Kabi said it is their responsibility as the government to deliver other remaining services which include installation of electricity and construction of roads.<\/p>\n
