Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>As to mark an impactful International Men\u2019s Day, which will be commemorated on November 19th, She-Hive Association has called men to take part at their unique upcoming celebration.<\/p>\n

The association will facilitate a 90.01Km marathon around Maseru town. This marathon is anticipated to serve a therapeutic purpose and it targets all men, who will also be sensitized on<\/p>\n

issues of Gender Based Violence (GBV), including males GBV. She-Hive Association Executive Director \u2018Mamakhethe Phomane disclosed at the press conference on Tuesday that<\/p>\n

this year\u2019s celebration will run under the theme; \u2018Race against Gender Based Violence\u2019. She explained that the association will also campaign throughout the month as to intensify efforts<\/p>\n

towards the fight against GBV. November has in this regard been nick-named Movember, a connotation that earmarks this month as fully dedicated to tackle males GBV.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis day has been observed over the years and the main objective has been to bring awareness, attention and<\/p>\n

education to men in relation to mental health,\u201d Phomane said, adding that research states that mental health has good relations to abusive actions to the victim and<\/p>\n

the abuser. She said along with the commemoration, men are also encouraged to test for Prostate and Testicular Cancer. Explaining the mandate for this year, Phomane said; \u201cOur message is extracted from the<\/p>\n

bible directed to young men as a reminder of what love is, we want them to introspect, ask themselves whether love does still exist, whether their relationships<\/p>\n

still have love, value and spark, how do they contribute or take part in brutal killings and women abuse as well as to decide on the route they want to take.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s day is very crucial hence why we invite men and young women to take part and engage in issues that involve GBV,\u201d Phomane indicated. She-Hive Association Treasure \u2018Mampai<\/p>\n

Lebeko explained that the association works with multiple entities including the government in the fight against abuse or GBV. She insisted that this time<\/p>\n

around they will be helping and supporting men. \u201cIt is quite known or spoken that we only support women as opposed to men, this programme includes advocating and supporting men who are afraid to speak about<\/p>\n

abuse either being done to them directly or to their fellow brothers and friends, at home by their partners or in workplace. She noted that Men engage, which is a programme under She-Hive, was created<\/p>\n

after realization that there are a number of men who are being abused while maximum focus has only been on women and children. \u201cMen also go through a lot of abuse, hence they resolve to fights and killings. This is also because naturally they are bad communicators,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
