Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Lesotho\u2019s United States-based tennis star Nyathi Motlojoa continues to shine in the US after qualifying for the Rivers Individual National Championships, which will take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee in two weeks\u2019 time.<\/p>\n

Motlojoa, 21, and his doubles partner Cole Schneider from Luther College booked a slot at the Individual Championships after dominating the men\u2019s doubles category during the American Rivers National Championship against Kalamazoo College last weekend.<\/p>\n

This was after Motlojoa inspired his Luther College team to the American Rivers National Championship three weeks ago, having won seven singles out of eight and all eight doubles as his team dominated a 10-team conference.<\/p>\n

Motlojoa repeated a fine run in doubles alongside Schneider last weekend. \u201cI won my doubles match 8-0 and lost my singles match 2-6, 1-6,\u201d said Motlojoa in an interview with Public Eye on Tuesday this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, my team lost 5-1 (to Kalamazoo College).<\/p>\n

\u201d In singles, Motlojoa lost to a Kalamazoo College player, Iaan Yi.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a fun and challenging match. However, we did not come out victorious.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a learning curve and also a good experience for the team to know we can go back again next season and do even better with more preparation.<\/p>\n

\u201d Motlojoa further said: \u201cI also qualified for the Individual Championships. My doubles partner and I will be travelling to Chattanooga in Tennessee in two weeks\u2019 time to compete with the best doubles pairs in the nation. \u201d<\/p>\n

Motlojoa went to the US in 2018 through a tennis scholarship to study and play tennis. He emulated his elder brother Kukutla who went to the US four years before him, also through the same tennis scholarship, to study at the New Mexico Military Institution while also playing tennis.<\/p>\n

The two players\u2019 father Rets\u030celisitsoe Motlojoa is also a former tennis player. The Motlojoa brothers are not the only Lesotho-born tennis players who relocated to the US, Lebelo Mosehle likewise got a tennis scholarship to study and play in America before the two. Mosehle has since finished his studies in the US and he now runs a tennis academy in America.<\/p>\n
