Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The President of Zimbabwe Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa, has formally handed over the SADC Chairmanship to the President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina.<\/p>\n

This took place at the 45th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) yesterday.<\/p>\n

In a heartfelt moment, President Mnangagwa passed the SADC Chairmanship to President Rajoelina, expressing confidence in his leadership to advance the regional integration agenda. \u201cI am confident that under President Rajoelina\u2019s leadership, SADC will advance our shared vision,\u201d he said, thanking member states for the cooperation he received during his tenure. He also extended best wishes to His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi, for his ongoing regional contributions.<\/p>\n

President Mnangagwa concluded by reaffirming the collective duty to build a prosperous SADC through unified efforts. \u201cNo one else will build it for us,\u201d he declared, calling for fruitful deliberations to advance the region\u2019s aspirations. His message aligns with Eswatini\u2019s dedication to regional integration, particularly through initiatives like intra-regional trade and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n

The SADC Chairmanship rotates annually among member states, with the elected head of state or government leading the organisation\u2019s agenda for a one-year term. The Chairperson oversees regional initiatives, fosters cooperation, and drives the implementation of SADC\u2019s Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (2020\u20132050). President Mnangagwa, who assumed the role in August 2024, steered SADC towards advancing industrialisation and innovation.<\/p>\n

SUPPORT REMOVAL OF ZIM SANCTIONS \u2013 MNANGAGWA
\nANTANANARIVO, MADAGASCAR \u2013 Zimbabwe President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa has passionately appealed to SADC and African leaders to support his country in its fight against Western sanctions, which he described as a barrier to the region\u2019s prosperity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese sanctions hinder the prosperity of our entire region,\u201d he said, urging collective action to demand their unconditional removal. He emphasised Zimbabwe\u2019s openness to engaging with progressive international partners to foster mutual respect and development, a stance that resonates with Eswatini\u2019s commitment to regional solidarity.<\/p>\n

In his address, President Mnangagwa called on SADC leaders, including His Majesty the King, to unite in demanding the unconditional removal of unjust Western sanctions on Zimbabwe, which he said hinder regional prosperity.<\/p>\n
