Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Districts COVID-19 Secretariats (DICOSECs) will receive the funding to the tune of M50 million for the Covid-19 fight efforts. These developments were revealed by the National COVID-19<\/p>\n

Secretary (NACOSEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. \u2018Malitaba Litaba in an interview with Informative Newspaper last week. NACOSEC held a two day meeting with the executives of the<\/p>\n

DISCOSECs where the former presented their districts plans and budgets for the Coronavirus response efforts. She said once the DISCOSECs have pledged their plans, they<\/p>\n

will consolidate the whole report and disburse the funds to them as soon as their budgets have been approved. The funds will cover two months. Dr. Litata<\/p>\n

said they will do regular follow-ups to ensure that the resources are put into use. \u201cWe are going to support them,\u201d she pledged, adding that they will perform<\/p>\n

oversight function. The NACOSEC CEO further mentioned that they have joined forces with the Ministries of Local Government and Chieftainship and Health in<\/p>\n

the fight against the pandemic. The DISCOSECs are made of the District Administrators (DAs) who are also the chairs of the District Councils Secretaries (DCSes), District<\/p>\n

Disaster Managers (DMMs), Districts Medical Officers (DMOs), Border Managers and members of security institutions. For her part, the Quthing DMO Dr. Mokhahlane said they had a<\/p>\n

challenge of lack of resources in their districts. She expressed confidence over the meeting that they will be able to procure the resources to boost their<\/p>\n

fight against the pandemic. Dr. Mokhahlane said they will be working with the security institutions to ensure that people coming through \u2018porous\u2019 borders are screened.<\/p>\n

Thaba-Tseka\u2019s DA Motete Mokonyane said with mobilisation of resources, they will reach many places and people to counter \u2018lax\u2019 of the Covid-19 regulations.<\/p>\n

He said they will put a lot of efforts together, which will see the Chiefs, Local Councillors and the Village Health Workers (VHW) work in concert at the communities as part of their response efforts in this fight.<\/p>\n

The country begun the roll out of the vaccination programme last month after receiving the first batch of 36 000 doses AstraZeneca vaccine. The Prime Minister Dr.<\/p>\n

Moeketsi Majoro said the country will inoculate about 1.4 million people making over half of the population, the figure which will set the country to attain the herd immunity status according to NACOSEC.<\/p>\n

Lesotho first recorded the Covid-19 case on May 13 in 2020. The first Covid-19 related death was recorded in July 9, 2020. According to the data supplied by NACOSEC, the country has thus far conducted over 65 000 tests, and recorded over 300 deaths with recoveries over 4 400 and over 10 600 positive cases.<\/p>\n
