Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) in partnership with Coca-Cola handed over tippy tanks at districts\u2019 police headquarters. The Society officially handed over a tippy tank constructed at Qacha\u2019s Nek district on April 26.<\/p>\n

The tippy tanks construction is funded by Coca-Cola Foundation to the tune of M546 000. The aim of the project is to ensure that public places that attract many people have handing washing facilities so as to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to assist orphanages that were hard hit by the pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice stations are some of the places that tend to be heavily populated during the day especially. We therefore found it necessary to assist them immediately after receiving funding from Coca Cola. It was very sad to see the police headquarters in Botha-Bothe using this homemade tippy tap,\u201d President of LRCS Silas Bosuhli said.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tumelo Moseme, said he was grateful for the initiative made by LRCS and Coca-Cola to his department because since the beginning of the Covid-19 police stations have been some of the hotspots because a lot of services are done there, and this is one way of minimising the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Qacha\u2019s Nek District Administrator, Mant\u0161i T\u0161eane, said Covid-19 is real adding he is one of its victims and urging the police to direct each and every person that comes to the station to the tippy tap for better hygiene.<\/p>\n

Standard Bank Lesotho also donated M80 000 to LRCS which was used to construct eight tippy taps and their tanks at the Department of Lesotho Correctional Service institutions in the Leribe, Mafeteng, Maseru and Mohale\u2019s Hoek. This was done on the 31st March in Maseru.<\/p>\n

A donation of M217 000 was used for the construction of 34 tippy tanks, soap dispensers and sinks which were installed in all the taxi ranks in the 10 districts, and four health centres of Lesotho Red Cross (Kena, Kolojane, Mapholaneng and Thaba-Bosiu), as well as some schools.<\/p>\n

The Society also held a Covid-19 Awareness Campaign under the theme \u201cSafety Tips and Precautions\u201d in the six districts of Maseru, Mafeteng, Mokhotlong, Leribe, Quthing and Quthing.<\/p>\n

The Society\u2019s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) project of LRCS provided agricultural inputs, as well as cash transfers to 2005 beneficiaries in Thaba-Tseka, Mokhotlong and Botha-Bothe. Beneficiaries received cash transfers that was aimed at closing the food basket gap and meet other basic needs.<\/p>\n

The Society held a three-day psychosocial support, psychological First Aid, play therapy, psychological wellbeing and child protection from all forms of abuse referral systems-workshop yesterday at the Institute of Development Management (IDM) which was aimed at healing the hearts of children who were victims of Gender-Based Violence which was exacerbated by the Covid-19 lockdown.<\/p>\n
