Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>It is the responsibility of Journalists to address Cyber harassment for their protection from psychological harm that could affect their ability to report freely.<\/p>\n

This was highlighted by Co-Facilitator, Ms. Gontle Ikitseng during her presentation on Cyber harassment available policies and laws for protection, at a five day workshop on Harassment Prevention and Positive Masculinity organized by Media Parity Project in Botswana.<\/p>\n

During her preseason on at the Lesotho and Botswana journalist for their empowerment on harassment prevention and Masculinity held in Gaborone this week.<\/p>\n

Cyber harassment refers to a threat through the use of digital technologies. It takes place in social media, messaging platforms and mobile phones.<\/p>\n

It is a repeated behavior aimed at threatening, scaring, shaming and silencing the targeted.<\/p>\n

She said addressing Cyber harassment can lead to amongst others self-censorship, limit their interaction with the public, stress and fear, loss of self-esteem and other mental issues.<\/p>\n

Ms. Ikitseng said Cyber security legal frameworks and policies are crucial because they can provide legal basis of preventing cyber harassment and establish clear guidelines on for organizations to manage risks and ensure compliance hence it is important for journalist to familiarize themselves with laws that affect them for their empowerment to navigate legal boundaries safely assert their rights in the face of threads and legal challenges.<\/p>\n

In connection with Lesotho and Botswana policies and laws for protection, the Co-Facilitator indicated that Botswana has Cyber and Computer Related Crime Act 2018, Data Protection Act 2024 and Cyber security Bill of 2025, while Lesotho has Computer Crime and Security Bill of 2024.<\/p>\n

The workshop which amongst others cover Sexual Harassment, Positive Workplace Culture and Gender, Track for Women Journalists and Editorial Leadership and Conflict Resolution.<\/p>\n
