Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Representatives from the Governments of the United States of America and the Kingdom of Lesotho have negotiated a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining the next five years of strengthened joint commitments to Lesotho\u2019s healthcare system.<\/p>\n

The new agreement builds on the 18 years of foreign assistance that the American people have provided, which has significantly contributed to the country\u2019s progress in the fight against HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by the U.S. Embassy Spokesperson, Ms. Jessica Tesoriero, the bilateral agreement expands on the health support that the United States has offered since 2007 through the President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and it will ensure joint funding for frontline healthcare workers as well as for the procurement of essential medical commodities during the five-year implementation period.<\/p>\n

She added that the agreement provides for the establishment of robust data systems capable of monitoring potential outbreaks and assessing broader health outcomes and it further outlines U.S. technical assistance to support the Government of Lesotho as it assumes increased responsibility over key health system management functions.<\/p>\n
