Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Portfolio Committee on the Prime Minister\u2019s Cluster has on Monday rejected a petition from some youth organisations and members of the public, on grounds that it was not well written and had hidden identities.<\/p>\n

This, after one of the petitioners Mr. Thuso Leina read the petition and its title before the committee and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Intentional Relations, whereby the Principal Secretary in the Ministry Mr. Thabang Lekhela also revealed that he is the President of Lesotho WorkCamps Association but was not aware that the latter was part of the petitioners.<\/p>\n

The Committee Chairperson, Mr. Makotoko Moshe said it would be appropriate to do things right from the beginning as the committee will have to report back to the National Assembly but that would not bear fruitful results when the petition is not authentic.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has to be clarification on organisations which signed the petition as well as the said independent members of the public,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, one of the Committee members Mrs. Machabana Lemphane Letsie advised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take advantage of the postponement and come back with a clear report on the Ministry\u2019s plan to address challenges facing some Basotho nationals who stay in South Africa (SA) as they will be coming home for Christmas holidays.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile amongst other issues that were raised in the petition include discrimination, abuse, security concerns and unconducive working environment for some Basotho working and staying in SA especially those based at Newcastle, Kwazulu Natal.<\/p>\n

It also urged the committee to resume negotiations with its South African counterpart regarding the welfare and rights of Basotho staying in SA amongst others.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the Petitioners will bring back an authentic petition next week and discuss it further.<\/p>\n
