Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>As Lesotho joins the global community in commemorating World AIDS Day, King Letsie III has called for collective action from every individual, civil society, the private sector, and development partners to achieve an HIV-free Lesotho.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the World AIDS Day event held in Maseru on Monday, the King noted that the day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress Lesotho has made in the fight against HIV. While acknowledging the notable achievements, he highlighted ongoing challenges that should inspire innovative and sustainable initiatives aimed at achieving a generation free from HIV.<\/p>\n

King Letsie III said this year\u2019s theme reflects the significant progress Lesotho has made over more than 30 years, with support from various development partners. He underscored that the fight against HIV\/AIDS is one Lesotho cannot afford to lose.<\/p>\n

The King also lauded the country for surpassing the global HIV targets, achieving impressive results of 97%, 97%, 99% in key indicators, signalling strong strides towards controlling the epidemic.<\/p>\n

At the same event, the Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane said for the longest time Lesotho has been ranked globally with the highest statistics of HIV which was confirmed by reports on new infections and HIV related deaths.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that standing together as the world to commemorate this day is a clear demonstration of shared commitment to a clear vision of conquering HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n

Mr. Matekane also appreciated the support of the US government and the United Nations family as well as other development partners for the support to Lesotho on HIV\/AIDS related issues.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane said today marks a golden opportunity to honour the unwavering resilience of those living with the virus, their families and the countless health workers and community volunteers who have been the backbone of the country\u2019s response.<\/p>\n

He stated that Lesotho stands at a pivotal moment of transformation and tangible hope and the story of Lesotho\u2019s HIV response is one that the nation has confronted a devasting epidemic with courage and unity.<\/p>\n

He however mentioned that the country\u2019s data reveals critical gaps that demand urgent attention in areas such as that of the children by intensifying paediatric HIV programming with child friendly medicines, better support for caregivers and dedicated follow-up.<\/p>\n

The event was graced with the presence of development partners as well as Cabinet minister whereby the Ministers led by King Letsie III and Queen \u2018Masenate signed their pledges in the fight against HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n
