Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong> <\/span>Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT) Secretary General Mr. Letsatsi Ntsibolane says Lesotho\u2019s curriculum needs a paradigm shift so that it benefits the country.<\/p>\n

This he said when unpacking the Grade 7 End of Level Assessment results released on Tuesday which he said in their view as LAT there is nothing to write home about.<\/p>\n

He said the current curriculum is not benefiting the country saying it relies more on memory than nurturing learners to be innovative and creative.<\/p>\n

He said the problem with this curriculum is that it is colonized and speaks for the Europeans instead of Lesotho and Basotho saying teaching children about the largest rivers in the world is not in any way helping Lesotho. He said it hinders the students from exploring their talents.<\/p>\n

He said the inherited curriculum only produces academics from primary to tertiary who after completion sit home with certificates.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is high time that we move from the colonized curriculum to a curriculum that commensurate with the needs of our country. We need innovators, creators that will shift our economy using resources that we have. We need creativity. We need critical thinking in terms of a leadership system. We need physical education to help reduce the bill that Lesotho pays to South Africa through transferring cancer, kidney patients etc\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
