Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Home Affairs held a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representatives to deliberate on ways to capacitate refugees in order for them<\/p>\n

to be self-resilient. Speaking at the media briefing, the Minister of Home Affairs Hon. Motlalentoa Letsosa said the main objective of the meeting was to brainstorm on the projects that could sustain the lives<\/p>\n

of the refugees. \u201cIt is necessary to capacitate them with skills to make a living, not to always depend on the country. This is also to avoid disputes arising from within the communities and<\/p>\n

to create platforms that will foster cooperation for them to easily integrate with the communities,\u201d he explained. UNHCR Representative Leonard Zulu complimented Lesotho, saying it is the Kingdom of people with big<\/p>\n

hearts, he said Lesotho has been a destination for people who flee their country because of violence, war and human rights violation. \u201cThey have found protection<\/p>\n

with the host communities, which helped them to re-build their lives during their hard times in exile. They got their documents such as Identifications (IDs)<\/p>\n

as well as citizenship. They also receive daily care from individuals in their communities and the government. More so, today they receive the land for<\/p>\n

commercial farming,\u201d Zulu announced. He further commended Lesotho for her accommodation to this vulnerable community, noting that refugees are able to go to schools with other Basotho children, sit on the same desks in<\/p>\n

classrooms, go to clinics and hospital where they also serve as nurses and doctors, he said all these show a warm hospitality for refugees. \u201cThey are also<\/p>\n

given opportunities to work in other sectors like education this also mean they are gradually growing into self-resilience,\u201d he said. After the meeting UNHCR<\/p>\n

delegates headed to Thaba-Bosiu, accompanied by the Ministry of Home Affairs Principal Secretary (PS) Tumelo Raboloetsi and met Thaba- Bosiu Principal Chief Khoabane Theko who took them on a tour to inspect the land that will be given to refugees.<\/p>\n
