{"id":66946,"date":"2026-02-20T11:33:55","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T11:33:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/counsellors-association-lesotho-concerned-with-finance-minister"},"modified":"2026-02-20T11:50:29","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T11:50:29","slug":"counsellors-association-lesotho-concerned-with-finance-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/lesotho\/all-news\/counsellors-association-lesotho-concerned-with-finance-minister","title":{"rendered":"Counsellors Association Lesotho Concerned With Finance Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Lesotho. <\/strong> <\/span>The Counsellors Association Lesotho (CAL) has expressed its concern over the statement made by Minister of Finance Dr. Retselisitsoe Matlanyane about Pastoral Care and Counselling Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Matlanyane, on Wednesday said she did not understand how institutions of higher learning are still offering Humanities courses, such as Pastoral counselling at a time when the world is looking for scientists.<\/p>\n<p>In its statement, CAL said it has noted the recent public remarks made by the Honourable Minister of Finance Dr. Rets\u030celisitsoe Matlanyane, in which programmes such as Pastoral Care and Counselling were cited as no longer relevant in a changing global landscape.<\/p>\n<p>It further says \u2018\u2019as the professional body representing trained counsellors and pastoral care practitioners, we express concern over statements that may undermine the vital role of counselling in Lesotho\u2019s health, education and social development sectors.
