Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The families of the slain former army commander Mapaarankoe Mahao and counterparts held a press conference yesterday condemning Judge Dikgang Moseneke for proposing transitional justice, which they believe compromises the facilitation justice which he was assigned to do.<\/p>\n

They said between 2014 and 2017 Lesotho faced turmoil instigated by elements within the Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) causing terrible human rights violations.<\/p>\n

The families said they had hoped to get closure ever since the Southern African Development Community (SADC) stepped in to try and bring about justice but that, unfortunately, has not come to pass.<\/p>\n

They further explained that their expectation was that Moseneke would fight for the implementation of SADC decisions that suggested that all suspects be taken to the courts of law and allow justice to take its course. Unfortunately, they said, Justice Moseneke seems to be taking his own path, which they allege is politically influenced.<\/p>\n

\u201cJustice Moseneke\u2019s interest appears to be on the political perpetrators and not the victims, which is a pure and direct violation of United Nations (UN) Transitional justice Policy whose main focus is the victims,\u201d their statement read.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the families further recommended that Moseneke\u2019s Transitional Justice ideas be taken as nothing but personal interests which do not serve the interests of the victims and the nation as a whole.<\/p>\n
