Lesotho’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Rets\u2019elisitsoe Matlanyane, met with TBEA Chairman Zhang Xin in Tianjin, China, to discuss the photovoltaic project in Mafeteng. The meeting highlighted the completion of Phase I and the upcoming Phase II, aimed at enhancing Lesotho’s energy security and supporting the Basotho diaspora’s skills development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong> <\/span>Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Rets\u2019elisitsoe Matlanyane, together with Lesotho\u2019s Ambassador to the People\u2019s Republic of China Mrs. \u2018Mapaballo \u2018Mile, held a courtesy meeting with the Chairman of TBEA (formerly Tebian Electric Apparatus) Mr. Zhang Xin, in Tianjin, China on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Ambassador formed part of the Honourable Minister\u2019s delegation for this engagement.<\/p>\n

TBEA, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions in China, is currently implementing a photovoltaic project in Ramarothole, Mafeteng District. Phase I has been successfully completed, with Phase II set to commence soon.<\/p>\n

During the meeting at TBEA headquarters, Dr. Matlanyane expressed appreciation for the completion of Phase I and reaffirmed Lesotho\u2019s commitment to strengthening cooperation towards the timely implementation of Phase II.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to play a significant role in advancing Lesotho\u2019s energy security and supporting the goal of ensuring reliable electricity access nationwide.<\/p>\n

In line with the China\u2013Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, the delegation also emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for the Basotho diaspora, particularly in skills development and knowledge transfer.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Mr. Zhang reaffirmed TBEA\u2019s commitment to deepening its partnership with Lesotho and supporting the country\u2019s development priorities.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile a signing ceremony was subsequently held, marking a renewed milestone of cooperation between the two sides.<\/p>\n

The delegation was further hosted at the TBEA Science and Technology Museum, where they gained insights into the company\u2019s evolution and achievements.<\/p>\n

This was followed by a visit to one of TBEA\u2019s industrial parks, showcasing advanced technologies across the power supply value chain.<\/p>\n

TBEA products are exported to over 70 countries and regions, particularly supplying to nations involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.<\/p>\n

As of 2025, it holds significant industrial, coal and energy trade assets with a brand value exceeding 50 billion RMB.<\/p>\n

Lesotho has been focusing on enhancing its energy infrastructure to ensure reliable electricity access for its citizens. The partnership with TBEA is part of a broader strategy to leverage international cooperation for sustainable development. TBEA, a major player in renewable energy, has been involved in various projects across Africa, aligning with China’s Belt and Road Initiative to foster economic ties and infrastructure development in the region. This collaboration is crucial for Lesotho’s energy security and economic growth.<\/p>\n
