Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The Moshoeshoe Walk, an annual three day walk from Menkhoaneng to Thaba-Bosiu has been cancelled due to the prevailing condition of the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The event which is organized by T-Connexion Marketing and Tours Managing Director Thabo Maretlane, commemorated the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I for the past 14<\/p>\n

years was supposed to celebrate its 15th anniversary milestone this year. According to the organizer and the founder of Moshoeshoe Walk, the reason for the cancellation of the walk is due to fear of the surge in Covid-19 cases<\/p>\n

in the country. He said there is no other solution given the Covid-19 regulations by the Government of Lesotho, which also prohibit hiking events as well as the gathering<\/p>\n

of more than 100 people. \u201cThis implies that the commemoration of King Moshoeshoe I birthday \u2013 which is usually celebrated in March annually \u2013 will face a huge challenge on our side this year since it is celebrated by several<\/p>\n

people from South Africa (SA) and other foreign countries. Meanwhile, the country\u2019s borders are not yet open for the foreign people\u2019s safety and the wellbeing of<\/p>\n

Basotho,\u201d Maretlane explained. Maretlane added that this does not only affect followers, but also the community that usually benefit from tourists during the walk.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey already know that at this time of the year, they will earn something as a result of the walk. This is a<\/p>\n

massive loss for the hospitality businesses as well, the community and to the country at large but life comes first,\u201d he highlighted. He further enlightened that the focal point of Moshoeshoe Walk is to educate<\/p>\n

people about the history of the founder of Basotho, King Moshoeshoe I and also inform Basotho of the securing of the country of Lesotho to its present<\/p>\n

existence. He said even though it is surrounded by the neighboring country SA, it was captured by the wisdom of King Moshoeshoe I. \u201cMoshoeshoe Walk makes<\/p>\n

Basotho proud internationally and it is also becoming beneficial to some of the people who are particularly living in SA yet they were born in Lesotho, whom<\/p>\n

their parents migrated from the country at their early ages and spend their whole lives in SA. Therefore, it is very essential for them to come back and learn more about their home,\u201d said Moshoeshoe Walk founder.<\/p>\n
