Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Basotho students in South Africa say they have gone for three months without getting their monthly allowances from the National Manpower Development Secretariat (NMDS).<\/p>\n

In an interview Moithehi Mohapi who is part of the Lesotho Students\u2019 Representative Council (SRC), said it has been three months since they last got allowances from NMDS.<\/p>\n

Asked if they had contacted NMDS, Mohapi said they did but the only response they got was that the secretariat had not received money from the government therefore they don\u2019t have the means with which to help students.<\/p>\n

A third year student from the University of Free State (UOFS) who chose to remain anonymous told this publication that he has been struggling a lot since February and his landlord has already given him an eviction notice so he will have nowhere to stay should that happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI consider myself lucky because my landlord is very tolerant.<\/p>\n

Some of my fellow students from Lesotho living elsewhere were kicked out long time ago because they haven\u2019t paid,\u201d he said, adding he is struggling at school because NMDS has also not yet paid book fees for him and examinations are fast approaching.<\/p>\n

However, NMDS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Moeketsi Rankhone, told Public Eye this afternoon that the money has since been processed and was sent today.<\/p>\n
