Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Through the support of the United States (U. S) Embassy, Tokiso Nthebe launched a digital and financial education program dubbed \u2018Lisente to Makholo\u2019 that is aimed at up-skilling and empowering graduates and young<\/p>\n

entrepreneurs with digital financial literacy skills. In his press statement, Nthebe revealed that \u201cthe programme is designed to promote the importance of<\/p>\n

holistic financial planning, especially during the uncertainty of Covid-19. Through this online program, the objective is to promote digital financial<\/p>\n

services (DFS) and digital platforms by driving digital financial literacy i. e. how to transact safely online, how to use digital channels and drive digital<\/p>\n

financial product knowledge. Lastly, with more transactions happening online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is increasingly becoming important to educate<\/p>\n

people on how to manage their budgets and spending when transacting online. \u201d In an Interview with Informative Newspaper, Nthebe indicated that \u201cLisente to Makholo\u201d started in July<\/p>\n

2019 as a savings challenge on social media. He added that the idea was to use<\/p>\n

social media to encourage Basotho youth to save money in a fun and engaging way. \u201cFinancial literacy remains a big challenge, there is a move towards online transacting, and the<\/p>\n

challenge is many people already lack digital and financial literacy skills hence the project wanted to close that gap so that people are empowered to make<\/p>\n

sound financial decisions while transacting online,\u201d Nthebe said. He furthered that the US Embassy Maseru, through its Public Diplomacy Office, opened up applications for<\/p>\n

grants in March 2020 and he grabbed the opportunity. Nthebe stated that the program is set to start later this month. \u201cThe initial plan was to deliver the<\/p>\n

program in a face to face workshop that would be held in different parts of the country, however with the advent of Covid-19, the program had to change towards<\/p>\n

a virtual program. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds when we start the program,\u201d he said. Nthebe highlighted that through the online program, he will promote digital financial services (DFS) on<\/p>\n

digital platforms. \u201cThe \u2018Lisente to Makholo Digital and Financial Education Program\u2019 is set to accommodate 100 participants between the ages of 21 to 35<\/p>\n

across the country, and it\u2019s open for those who hold a tertiary qualification (diploma or degree) or have a registered business no older than 2 years.<\/p>\n

The program registration commenced on the 1st February and so far we have registered 50 candidates,\u201d he said. He added that the registration is intended to run for two weeks and the program to run for close<\/p>\n

of TKO Consultancy. He holds a Master\u2019s Degree in Financial Management from The University of Pretoria, he also did a 12 weeks course in Financial Coaching at<\/p>\n
