Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has encouraged South African football coaches to emulate himself\u201a Trevor Noah and Black Coffee as South Africans testing themselves abroad.<\/p>\n

Mosimane took one of the toughest coaching jobs in Africa, leaving the comfort of Mamelodi Sundowns \u2013 where he had won 11 trophies in eight years and signed a new four-year contract \u2013 in a bombshell move to the<\/p>\n

continent\u2019s club of the 20th century in late September. As Mosimane prepares his team for the Fifa Club World Cup\u201a where Ahly meet host club Al-Duhail of Qatar in the second round on February 4\u201a<\/p>\n

he was asked about South Africans\u2019 support \u2013 including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans \u2013 for him at the tournament. Mosimane encouraged SA football coaches to emulate himself\u201a<\/p>\n

comedian Noah at The Daily Show and DJ Black Coffee as South Africans taking the step up to the international stage. \u201cThey [Chiefs and Pirates supporters] are being patriotic<\/p>\n

and they support somebody who is representing the country outside\u201a\u201d the coach told a press conference of the SA Football Journalists\u2019 Association. \u201cJa\u201a we have to carry the national flag.<\/p>\n

You can see in my pictures\u201a the top stages [of competitions]\u201a I have got my South African flag. \u201cI come from humble beginnings \u2013 I come from the township.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s a route that I want to say to a township boy\u201a that it is possible. And that\u2019s what Trevor Noah is doing\u201a that\u2019s what Black Coffee is doing\u201a and that\u2019s<\/p>\n

what a lot of guys are showing. \u201c[It\u2019s about] black excellence and that we can come from humble beginnings. And let\u2019s not settle only for\u201a you\u2019ve [SA media] got a term<\/p>\n

that you use of \u2018Amabinneplaas\u2019 [locally-based]. And let\u2019s look beyond the border. \u201cAnd I\u2019m the first one to admit that maybe I could have looked at it before.<\/p>\n

In life they say it\u2019s always the right time. \u201cSimba [in Tanzania] once had a vacancy. Somebody asked me about it last year\u201a and said\u201a \u2018Coach, can you please recommend coaches to go to<\/p>\n

Simba to come and coach in the Champions League group stages against Al Ahly?\u2019 \u201cAnd some of the coaches who I know did not take the chance. But\u201a I don\u2019t know \u2013 it\u2019s up to you.<\/p>\n

You will know that when you go to Simba the lifestyle is not the same. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t have the same here [in Egypt]. The lifestyle is different\u201a the country is different\u201a the food is different.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t have my social life that I have in South Africa. So you sacrifice for the best. \u201cThat\u2019s why [European-based ex-Sundowns players] Percy Tau\u201a Bongani Zungu and Keagan Dolly sacrifice to stay through midwinters.<\/p>\n

So it\u2019s up to the coaches. How far do you want it? \u201cHere it\u2019s tough. Even if I signed a two-year contract, it can be a six-month contract. But I needed to test [myself].<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to do what you have to do\u201a and fight\u201a and say to<\/p>\n

the next person\u201a \u2018It is possible\u2019. \u201cNelson Mandela said\u201a \u2018It always looks impossible until someone does it\u2019. We never thought he could be a president from being a<\/p>\n

prisoner. \u201cAmazing things happen. There are a lot of good stories. There\u2019s Trevor Noah\u201a there\u2019s Percy Tau [recently recalled from loan to Premier League club Brighton].<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must always carry our flag and make sure we are ambassadors of the country. \u201d<\/p>\n

Mosimane\u201a after winning a treble at Sundowns in 2019-20\u201a wrapped up a treble that included the league and Champions League at Ahly in the last few months of the Egyptian season. TimesLive<\/p>\n
