Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Some Basotho could find themselves stranded owing to the closure of the borders by the neighbouring South Africa (SA). In his speech on Monday, the President of SA Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country\u2019s efforts to<\/p>\n

contain the Coronavirus, where one of the measures they will employ is to restrict entry into that country. \u201cTo reduce congestion and the high risk of transmission, Cabinet has decided that the 20 land ports of<\/p>\n

entry that are currently open will be closed until the 15th of February for general entry and departure. These include the six busiest border posts, which<\/p>\n

are Beitbridge, Lebombo, Maseru Bridge, Oshoek, Ficksburg and Kopfontein,\u201d he said. Ramaphosa further highlighted that people will be allowed entry or departure in that country for transportation<\/p>\n

of fuel, cargo and goods and those who may need an emergency medical attention for life-threatening conditions will be excused. The President mentioned that<\/p>\n

the special dispensation will be extended to the return of South African nationals, permanent residents or persons with other valid visas, the diplomats, the departure of foreign nationals and the daily commuters from<\/p>\n

neighbouring countries who attend schools in that country. In other related developments, the United Kingdom has recently imposed a travel ban for 10 days<\/p>\n

to some Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries including Lesotho due to a new Covid-19 variant identified in SA. \u201cEntry into England will<\/p>\n

be banned to those who have travelled from or through any southern African country in the last 10 days, including Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Eswatini, Zambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique and Angola- as well as Seychelles and Mauritius,\u201d this is according to that country\u2019s Department of Transport.<\/p>\n
