Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Public Eye Online was at Thaba-Bosiu today to witness the official commemoration of King Moshoeshoe 1, the founder of the Basotho nation who died in 1870. Moshoeshoe\u2019s day is an annual public holiday observed on March 11 in memory of the first king of Lesotho.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s ceremony only took about 30 minutes, and large crowds of Basotho who traditionally come to witness the even each wear were conspicuous by their absence.<\/p>\n

Only His Majesty King Letsie III, the Bataung chief, the Batlokoa chief, Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro, media personnel, and some soldiers and police attended the event. Only the King, Majoro and a few chiefs laid wreaths on King Moshoeshoe\u2019s crave but no speeches were made.<\/p>\n

In an interview Thabo Morahanye who lives at Thaba Bosiu said he was surprised the annual took such a short time because he wanted to witness the official event but, unfortunately, he met people coming from the event as he was preparing to go to the grave site. The commemoration was a low key digital event without the feast, pomp and ceremony traditionally expected.<\/p>\n
