Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) Chief Legal Officer Tlotliso Polaki has urged the public to abide by the Covid-19 principles as communicated in the public health regulations<\/p>\n

presented by the Prime Minister Hon. Moeketsi Majoro on January 03rd. This transpired during the Covid-19 weekly assessment report yesterday. She showed that the decisions were<\/p>\n

undertaken in alignment with segments of the national constitutions, specifically the supreme law which articulates the state of disaster declaration that was created in March last<\/p>\n

year which guides on the precise measures to be taken. Polaki noted that this constitution specified that human rights are appreciated but the government can make thorough<\/p>\n

decisions and plans in order to save the lives of people by limiting the rights of both fundamental rights and freedoms as enshrined in the constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government has ensured that under this situation is controlled by disaster<\/p>\n

management constitution no.2 1997 and public health regulations. Individualized public health measures were introduced on the 1st October last year in the selected areas where people are expected to submit valid vaccination<\/p>\n

cards together with identification documents,\u201d she said. Regarding compulsory vaccination of the workforce, Polaki advised employers to seriously monitor this urgent<\/p>\n

precaution to see that the employees work in a safe and healthy environment, saying principle had to be extended to limit onward transmission of the virus.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, public servants at hot spot areas need to be responsible and take reasonable measures to ensure that people present their vaccination cards when they go for services,\u201d Polaki stated. She showed the regulations are<\/p>\n

effective starting from January 2022 and those who fail to comply with the process will face serious measures. Apart from that she said children from the<\/p>\n

age of 12-17 are expected to vaccinate and parents and legal guardians are to take responsibility. \u201cIn circumstances where one is not eligible to vaccinate<\/p>\n

because of ill-health, such person should be awarded certificate of unfitness by a medical practitioner even though it is a strict process as according to<\/p>\n

the law the Director of Health services in the MoH has to satisfy that the stated condition exists and endorse such exemption. In other news, NACOSEC Deputy Chief<\/p>\n

Executive Officer (CEO) Operational Support Thabo Ntoi informed that from December 26th 2021 which is epi week 51 until 1st January 2022 epi week 52, the specimen used to make Covid-19 tests were 28, 833 and 26,957<\/p>\n

respectfully. Ntoi showed that out of those specimen tested positive tests were 2,654 in week 51 while in week 52 were 1,806 and the situation in the health<\/p>\n

centers the admission of positive patients has increased from 1 % in week 52 from 13% to 14% and deaths increased from 3 to 5 and the positivity rate decreased from 9% to 7%.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll people who have entered the country through the border posts in week 52 are 13, 129 while in week 51 they were 58, 862 and the positive cases were 1,208 in week 51 while in week 52 were decreased to 525,\u201d Ntoi said.<\/p>\n
