Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) handed over 33 white canes to the visually impaired students of St. Catherine\u2019s High School on Friday.<\/p>\n

This initiative like many others, is part of the Heal the World Foundation which was introduced by LUCT founder President Tan Sri Dato\u2019 Sri Paduka Limkokwing with<\/p>\n

the purpose to alleviate poverty and improve the lives of the less privileged people. In their press statement, the university stated that as a way to give<\/p>\n

back to the nation, they saw it fit to lend a helping hand to students in this facility, stressing that, \u201ca white cane for a visually impaired person is a<\/p>\n

need but it is unfortunate that not all people can afford it\u201d. LUCT Registrar Moroka Hoohlo speaking at the handover ceremony said for the longest time, LUCT recognized the situation these students go through hence it has been<\/p>\n

eager to extend a helping hand to the facility. He said the white canes will make movement easier for them. One of the students at St. Catherine\u2019s High School Mot\u0161et\u0161eroa Mot\u0161et\u0161eroa thanked LUCT<\/p>\n

for the donations which he said they regard as a gift from the university. He said the white canes come at the time of Covid-19 pandemic when for them to<\/p>\n

walk, they are forced to touch the surface areas touched by other people or have an assistance, thereby being exposed to the virus. \u201cThese white canes are<\/p>\n

going to help us to maintain physical distancing since we won\u2019t need assistants anymore,\u201d he said. Mot\u0161et\u0161eroa said they are now going to walk freely on their<\/p>\n

own. The Minister of Social Development Hon. \u2018Matebatso Doti said the relationship between the ministry and the university come a long way as it has been<\/p>\n

assisting disabled people for a couple of times. She further said it is the government\u2019s responsibility to see to it that the students get the white canes even though it does not have muscles to do so at the current moment. She said partnering with stakeholders like LUCT was a good move.<\/p>\n
