Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) handed dignity kits to Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso as a recipient on behalf of Her Majesty\u2019s Hlokomela Banana project on Friday.<\/p>\n

UNFPA coincidentally handed over the dignity kits on May 28th as the world marked Mentsrual Hygiene Day. The kits are to be distributed to St. Bernadette<\/p>\n

Resource for the Blind and Lesotho Girl Guide Association as some of the beneficiaries of the project. The distribution of the dignity kits forms part of UNFPA\u2019s mission to support<\/p>\n

vulnerable young women and girls in humanitarian situations which have been caused mainly by the drought in recent years, the floods early this year and<\/p>\n

the Covid-19 pandemic. UNFPA representative to Lesotho DR. Marc Derveeuw, while giving remarks about the day, said that UNFPA recognizes the multi-layered<\/p>\n

challenges faced by women and young girls in Lesotho especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. \u201cIt is our fervent hope that the 400 dignity kits we are going to provide for young<\/p>\n

women and girls under Her Majesty\u2019s tutelage will come a long way in helping the recipients regain their dignity and overcome the challenges that are brought about by nature to women of reproductive age.<\/p>\n

The dignity kits are explicitly tailored towards the needs of women and girls of reproductive age such as soap, sanitary pads and other items to ensure hygiene and preserve<\/p>\n

their dignity, which is essential to maintaining their self-esteem and confidence,\u201d he noted. Derveeuw also expressed gratitude to the Her Royal Highness Princess Senate and the<\/p>\n

Office of Her Majesty Queen \u2018Masenate Mohato Seeiso for partnering with UNFPA in various areas overtime and in once again agreeing to distribute the dignity<\/p>\n

kits to vulnerable young girls. He also mentioned that they are very grateful for the work that the office of Her Majesty does in supporting young women and<\/p>\n

girls in Lesotho. So far they have distributed more than 3000 dignity kids and have also been working with the Office of the First Lady. On behalf of the girls who received the dignity kits, Lesotho Girls Guide<\/p>\n

Association member Karabo Lekote expressed her gratitude to UNFPA for the dignity kits offered to them. She mentioned that they are going to help them a<\/p>\n

lot during this pandemic as some of them are unable to afford sanitary pads. Speaking at the handover occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso<\/p>\n

exchanged her remarks by explaining that the dignity kits are a generous donation from the country\u2019s office of the UNFPA, she said that the total of 400<\/p>\n

kits that were donated will go a long way towards contributing to the enhancement of the dignity of the girls who have received them. She further showed gratitude to UNFPA for extending a helping hand to young women and girls<\/p>\n

in Lesotho. \u201cUNFPA, we are grateful for your helping hand. This is a clear testimony of the fact that UNFPA is indeed a dependable partner of Lesotho in the pursuit of<\/p>\n

developmental agenda. They have always stood with Lesotho in its efforts to support vulnerable members of the society, especially weaker members of the<\/p>\n

society like women and girls. It is a well known fact that young women and girls in Africa and in Lesotho face a number of challenges that they have to<\/p>\n

deal with every day of their lives,\u201d she noted. As she concluded, Her Royal Highness noted that UNFPA\u2019s support will make a considerate difference in the lives of the girls who have received the dignity kits, and requested those who benefited from its generosity to be grateful for this kind assistance.<\/p>\n
