Africa-Press – Lesotho. <\/strong><\/span>In an effort to reduce road accidents, Road Safety has launched the \u2018Back to school\u2019 campaign as a continuing routing following the Easter and Christmas holidays<\/p>\n

campaigns that are usually held annually. The campaigns commenced on January 17th and will end on March 30th this year. Road safety has so far visited about five schools in Maseru, being: Tiny-tots,<\/p>\n

Maseru Private Academy, Khubetsoana High school, Moshoeshoe II Primary and Khubetsoana Primary school, teaching students about road signs, how to cross roads, where<\/p>\n

to cross and everything about road safety. Road Safety Senior Information Officer Selloane Lebete mentioned that their aim is to move around in all the 10 districts of Lesotho spreading awareness to both primary<\/p>\n

and high schools students teaching them about road accidents and road safety. She said they began the campaign in Maseru and will be around for the next two<\/p>\n

weeks. \u201cThe campaign has two categories, one where we will go around schools to educate students about road accidents, road signs as well as road safety and<\/p>\n

the other whereby we will be checking school buses to ensure if the drivers have documents that state their rights to owning school buses and if they carry<\/p>\n

the required capacity of children,\u201d she said. Lebete said they have reached about 250 school bus drivers and have also advised them to paint school buses on both sides so that at least a person approaching from<\/p>\n

30km can identify one from that distance. She said it is unlawful to carry children with a school bus that is not documented and painted. She also urged<\/p>\n

drivers to comply with the law, which states that children from 7 years and below should share a seat and should pay half of transport fee. She insisted that pressing children in a<\/p>\n

minibus is a serious offence, adding that the children are not supposed to pay full taxi fare if they are not sitting on the chairs. She also urged the drivers to ensure that their school busses have a signal tag on both sites.<\/p>\n
