This he said in an exclusive interview with Informative Newspaper on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>This year Leribe has ranked in the 1st place as the district with the best performance followed by Maseru, Berea, Mafeteng, Butha-Buthe, Qacha\u2019s Nek, Mohale\u2019s Hoek, Quthing, Mokhotlong<\/p>\n<p>and Thaba-Tseka being the last. About 155 students were top achievers, all from different schools. Khoabane mentioned that the performance decline follows the teachers strike that<\/p>\n<p>happened in 2018 and 2019 whereby teachers protested over the government\u2019s failure to increase their salaries. He mentioned that another thing that turned out<\/p>\n<p>to be a barrier is the Covid-19 pandemic, which lead to the closure of schools and only Grade 10 and 12 students were allowed to attend classes. He added that<\/p>\n<p>the online teaching was also a difficulty as other students did not have learning equipments. Replying to the query of the development on publication of results, Khoabane said, \u201cThe Data<\/p>\n<p>Protection Act prohibit sharing of any kind of information without the approval of the owner. Therefore we found it appropriate to release their results using<\/p>\n<p>only their student numbers. This way the only people who have access to the results are the students and their parents,\u201d he noted. This year results were<\/p>\n<p>published using student numbers instead of both names and student numbers.
