Liberia: Bassa High School Graduates over 330 Students in Buchanan

Buchanan was a scene of celebrations and colorful display on Sunday, February 27, when the government run Bassa High School graduated over 330 students.

Hundreds of parents including relatives flooded the principal streets of Buchanan in a joyous mood celebrating the graduation. Sunday’s graduation was the 95th commencement of the school since its established March 9, 1926 in Port City of Buchanan.

Father Augustus Quoi, Principal of the School, said the graduates were amongst students who passed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Liberia.

He said, “Today I am so excited to graduate over 330 students from the walls of the great Bassa High School. I can safely say, we’ve prepared them for college and they will do very well’.

“While it is true that they’re leaving the Bassa High School, we as teachers should help to guide them because they’re alumni of our school and we all must ensure that they ably represent our school’.

Mr. Emmanuel Reeves, former Alumni President of the Bassa High School served as keynote speaker for the ceremony. He encouraged the graduates to push for more educational success.

“I see this day as a dream come true, seeing most of you leaving this Bassa High School is good but you have to keep the focus and continue your education,” he said.

“The leaders of the school will be excited when you do great things that bring happiness and pride to the college but if your character out there is bad then you have made us shame.”

Mr. Reeves presented the sum of US$2,500 to the school to carry on any project that will beautify the school campus. “I will provide Two Thousand Five Hundred United States dollars for the school to carry out any great project that will beatify our school campus.”

He at the same time contributed US$1,000 for the graduating class to enable them celebrate their graduation as they happily collected their diplomas. At the same time , Ex-Senator Gbehzohngar Findley appreciated the school’s administration for their continuous efforts in educating young people he termed as future leaders .

“I am so happy that hundreds of students sat for the WASSCE exam and today many of them are graduating. I am over proud that our Bassa High School sent over 330 persons and today they’ve graduated.”

Findley encouraged the parents to continue their support their children, adding that they’re future leaders of Liberia and they deserve the support of everyone. Findley Promised to continuously work with the school’s administration for the betterment of the institution.
