Africa-Press – Liberia. Nimba County District 8 Representative Larry P. Younquoi has expressed his “frustration” at President George M. Weah’s announced 22-day trip abroad amid dire economic and other crises in the country.
The Nimba County lawmaker described the President’s absence in the country, from November 1 to November 23, as “not perfect” and “insensitive.”.
Speaking to the legislative press last week, Younquoi named the ongoing crises of delays with the conduct of the census, the Biometric Voters Registration, and a shortage of rice.
The President will be in Morocco for six days, and then in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for four days. He will spend seven days in Paris, France, and will lastly attend the opening of the World Cup in Doha, Qatar, for eight days.
Rep. Younquoi, who is also the House’s Chairman on Good Governance and Government Reform, is also an Executive Member of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), headed by Mr. Alexander B. Cummings.
The President wrote: “I wish to inform you that I will be away from the country, November 1st–23rd, 2022, to attend the following official functions as stated below: (1) The 14th Edition of the MEDays Forum in Tangier, Morocco; from November 1-6, 2022; (2) The 27th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP27) in Sharm El- Sheikh, Egypt; from November 6-9, 2022; The 5th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum in Paris, France; from November 9-15, 2022 and the opening of the World Cup in Doha, Qatar; from November 15-23, 2022
“While I am away from the country, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Clir. Frank Musah Dean, Jr., will chair the cabinet in consultation with the Vice President and in telephone consultation with me.”
Meanwhile, the House Plenary noted the president’s communication.
