Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia- The Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA), having not held a female league, is expected to kick-start with five participating clubs.

The five participating clubs include Ducor Athletics, Bushrod Island Warriors, Mighty Rangers, Sinkor Oilers, and Central Freeport.

According to LNHA, the league will be held at the University of Liberia’s court on Capital Hill on Saturday, February 18 2023 with Ducor Athletic engaging Bushrod Island Warrior, with the next encounter between Might Rangers and Sinkor Oilers.

Speaking to FrontPage Africa, LNHA’s president, J. Aratus Larkpor said the inaugural league will provide an opportunity for female athletes to recognize their potential.

According to him, though the league could last for two months, it allows the national Handball u-18 and u-20 teams to get better prepared for international competition.

He further stressed that it could create an avenue to get girls out of the street and make them better people in society.

“The league is going to last for two months and there will be no cash prize given to the winner but champions will get a trophy while deserved players will receive certificates, he said.

He added, ” We want the players to be in shape for the national teams and the best will to do that is to organize a league so that the players can gain experience to be ready for the national program.”

Meanwhile, LNHA is also expected to organize a workshop for Coaches, referees, and players in Monrovia on Thursday and Friday.

The training is part of the LNHA plans to improve the game at all levels across the country.
