Africa-Press – Liberia. The Turkish Mining Company in Bong County, MNG Gold-Liberia, has donated a consignment of valuable items, including five motorbikes, 250 pieces of solar panels, and an amount of $450,000.00 for the 2017 chemical spills
Speaking during the donation ceremony, Bong County Superintendent Madam Esther Walker disclosed that the gesture came as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between residents of affected communities and the company after a 2017 dispute of chemical spills which affected residents.
Superintendent Walker revealed that it was through her intervention that the demands of residents in the affected communities was met. Moreover, Madam Walker recounted several projects within the MoU which were signed, including the relocation of elementary school, the completion of the vocational school, and the rehabilitation of feeder roads in the district.
Also in attendance were Bong County Senator, Prince Kermue Moye Sr., and Mr. Edwin Dennis, Head of the National Bureau of Concession. Meanwhile, the citizens of the Kokoyah District lauded the efforts of the Superintendent and Senator Moye for their timely intervention.
In another development, Bong County Superintendent has assured the citizens of Bong County of President Weah visit to the County on October 24, 2021, to turn on the West African Power Pull.
In furtherance, Sup. Walker said the turning-on ceremony will be held at the Gbarnga Administrative Building. Additionally, Madam Walker named the extension of powers in other communities to benefit from the power supply.
Mr. Eugine Kollie who serves as the Superintendent of Government and Community Relations for MNG Gold Liberia Inc. presented the materials on behalf of the company General Manager, Mr. Cem Koray Yagci, as some of the many developments the company is carrying on, out of the MoU signed in 2014. Mr. Kollie said the company will continue to do its best for the community, despite paying to national Government it’s royalties.
