'A Grave Threat to My Life,' ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia Alarms Over Death Threat

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) Ambassador to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah has reported threats on her life by an individual named Bill Carson.

Nkrumah in a communication dated March 3, addressed to Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean, said Carson in a Facebook comment via the Costa Show indicated that he wants the Monrovia City Mayor to carry the ECOWAS ambassador down six feet in an attempt to draw the international community’s attention to rights violations and other crimes.

“I want Jefferson Koijee to send the ECOWAS ambassador six feet: then the international will wake up,” Nkrumah quotes Carson’s comment in the communication.

Nkrumah told the Ministry of Justice that the comment is considered a “grave threat” to her life and the staff of the ECOWAS mission.

“Accordingly, I request the Ministry of Justice to take steps in investigating this matter and assure you of my cooperation in this regard. I look forward to your urgent attention to this threat on my life and possible security implications for ECOWAS staff in the resident Representation office in Liberia.”

Nkrumah letter below:

I bring you compliments from the Resident Representation Office of the ECOWAS Commission in Liberia. I write to bring to the Ministry’s attention a social media comment made by an individual on the Costa’s Show on Thursday, March 2, 2023, where a Facebook user name Bill Carson commented with a threat against my life. The comment STATED, “I WANT JEFFERSON KOIGEE TO SEND THE ECOWAS AMBASSADOR SIX FEET; THEN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY WILL WAKE UP”. Attached herewith is a picture of the said comment.

The above statement is considered a grave threat to my life and raises serious security implications for both the person of the Résident Representative and staff of the ECOWAS Resident Representation office. Accordingly, I request that the Ministry of Justice kindly takes steps to investigate this matter and assure you of my cooperation in this regard.
