Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia national football team’s head coach, Ansu Keita, has made some notable selections as he prepares the Lone Star squad for training ahead of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). Keita has decided to recall Mark Paye to the team, while leaving out Tommy Songo, who faced criticism following Liberia’s 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the AFCON qualifier for Cotê d’Ivore.Mark Paye, who has previously represented Liberia, will make his return to international football after his debut against Tunisia, which saw Lone Star suffer a 4-1 defeat in 2016. The Bea Mountain forward had also faced disciplinary action, receiving a one-year ban for shoving referee Moses Tokpah during a match against LISCR FC.
Coach Keita has also brought back Christopher Jackson, who played a key role in leading LISCR to a double victory, scoring an impressive 23 goals in the league, four goals in the Orange Cup, and providing eight assists across all competitions last season.
In addition to these experienced players, Keita has included several talented, uncapped local players in the 25-man squad. The list includes defenders Henry Sakama, Sebastin Teclar, George Wallace, Daniel Harris, Alexander Curtis, and Darius Karr, as well as midfielders Sean Barry, Abu Kindness Cole, and Nush Abu Zohn. The squad also features forward Momo Blamo.
The Lone Star coach and his team are set to begin preparations on Saturday, 1 July, as they eagerly await the qualification draw for the competition. The CHAN tournament, organized biennially by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), exclusively showcases players from national league competitions.
The selection of both experienced and promising young talents demonstrates Coach Keita’s commitment to building a strong and competitive squad for the upcoming CHAN tournament, with hopes of representing Liberia with distinction on the continental stage.
