Africa-Press – Liberia. Opposition Unity Party (UP) representative candidate Mr. Prince Toles has won the Montserrado District #8 representative seat, frustrating incumbent Representative Moses Acarous Gray’s re-election bid.
Mr. Toles emerged victorious based on the National Elections Commission (NEC) election results released Wednesday, 18 October 2023.
Toles defeated incumbent Representative Gray of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).
He obtained 9,249 votes compared to Gray’s 9,165 votes across 83 polling places within the district. The winner, Mr. Toles had a margin of 84 votes against his rival, Mr. Gray.
Gray has represented the district for 12 years.
Speaking shortly on Wednesday, Mr. Toles described his victory as a new day for the people of District Number Eight.
“The people of Monsterrado County electoral district number eight have decided,” he said.
He said the people have reposed confidence in him, affirming his commitment to working with the people to bring the desired change.
He claimed that his predecessor Mr. Gray has miserably failed the people for 18 years, and they have called on him to make the change.
He pledged his loyalty to jubilant supporters that he would work with them to identify and solve problems and improve the district.
Before Toles’ victory, it was political tension was building up in the district as Mr. Gray continued to make claims that he had won the district seat.
But the overturn came late Wednesday evening when the NEC announced 83 out of 83 polling places, putting the opposition candidate Prince Toles ahead with 9,249 to 9,165 votes.
