Africa-Press – Liberia. The Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, David A. Kemah, has called for adequate funding of the agency to enhance the fight against fraud, waste, and abuse in the public sector.

Mr. Kemah stated that the most efficient and cost-effective method for minimizing fraud, waste, and abuse in government is by strengthening internal controls, and developing and implementing an effective risk management strategy that decreases the opportunities for fraud to occur.

He emphasized that the training and full deployment of IAA’s auditors throughout government, as required by statute, will enhance compliance, ensure consistent and continuous monitoring of budget execution, and the implementation of audit recommendations.

The IAA boss advised that preventing waste and abuse of public resources is more advantageous than investigations and accountability.

These remarks were made over the weekend in Bomi County, during the induction ceremony of the President of Bomi Community College, Dr. Zobong Norman.

Dr. Norman was also designated as an Integrity Ambassador, joining other former employees who were appointed by the President of Liberia to various top positions in government.

During the designation, IAA’s Director General congratulated the honoree and described him as one of the pillars of the agency, whose departure has created a vacuum.
