Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Boxing Association (LBA) is gearing up to showcase its talents on the international stage as they prepare to participate in the upcoming championship competition in Montenegro, Europe.
According to the Liberia Boxing Association, a 14-man delegation from the LBA is set to represent Liberia and fly the Liberian flag high at such a prestigious event.
Coach Arku Kortee expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to take on their international counterparts, and emphasized that the LBA has the skills and determination to compete at the highest level.
However, the team faces challenges, particularly in securing sponsorship for their participation in the competition.
Mr. Alfred Michael Slocum, the Secretary General in collaboration with Jonathan Wade, President of the Liberia Boxing Association (LBA), revealed that an estimated amount of $25,000 USD is needed to cover expenses, such as air tickets, medical, food for the athletes, and other costs for the team.
The LBA president said in order to make the trip possible, they have reached out to various government officials and well-meaning Liberians for support.
He said those reached out for assistance are prominent figures, including the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jonathan Fonati Koffa , Senator Saah H. Joseph, Senator Bill T. Twehway, and Senator Johnny K. Kpehe.
The Boxing Association, is at the same time, calling on Chief Patron of Sports, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, for a swift intervention upon his return to the Country.
The 14-man delegation is scheduled to depart Liberia on October 19, 2024 for the championship in Montenegro.
