Africa-Press – Liberia. Residents in Todee have launched an appeal for the Government of Liberia to immediately address their deplorable road conditions.
Residents of Todee District, rural Montserrado County, have decried the deplorable condition of the road connecting their area to other parts of the country.
The residents said the deplorable road condition has increased commodity prices and hindered basic, essential social services.
Some residents, including local farmers and motorists who spoke to the New Dawn over the weekend, expressed deep frustrations regarding the bad road conditions.
They said the deplorable road has become a nightmare, limiting access to essential social services and increasing commodity prices.
Josephine Kolleh, a local farmer, said the deplorable road condition has become increasingly hazardous for them.
According to Madam Kolleh, the dilapidated condition of the roads has limited residents’ access to clinics, markets, and schools.
On the other hand, she said motorcyclists and residents face difficulties commuting from one location to another.
“Our roads are filled with potholes, and they become nearly impassable when it rains. It affects our ability to transport goods and access essential services,” said Madam Kolleh.
She indicated that children are deprived of going to school, and when people are sick, it becomes more difficult to access health facilities.
Pokar Flomo, a civil servant and a resident of the area, described the road condition as a severe hindrance to the district.
“We are unable to market, access plenty things, even going to Monrovia, because our road is bad,” said Flomo.
He stated that because of the road, there is an increase in transport fares.
The residents appeal to the Government of Liberia to address their deplorable road conditions immediately.
“We are calling on President Boakai to assist us, fix our [road]. This has affected our businesses and stopped our children [from] going to school,” an elderly woman said.
Due to the road conditions, vehicles have been stuck in the mud for two to three hours in some cases.
Residents from neighboring towns are forced to push vehicles out of the mud, burdening commuters and commercial drivers.
The residents have also called on Montserrado County Electoral District #1 Representative Rugie Yatu Barry to advocate on their behalf for the repair of their damaged road.
“We facing extreme difficulties and calling on Rep. Barry to assist us. This is the time you come to our need,” the residents pleaded. Todee District in rural Montserrado has a population of about 49,361 inhabitants.
