Africa-Press – Liberia. Ex-President Weah launches dollar rally, as he announces comeback in 2029.

Former President George M. Weah accuses President Joseph N. Boakai and his ruling Unity Party-led government of sinking Liberia deeper into poverty, fear and hopeless.

Mr. Weah says he sees failure of the party that took him from power in the last election, and that he and is Coalition for Democratic Change are coming back to fix the misstep.

Officially launching the CDC’s US$ dollar rally at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town over the weekend, Mr. Weah recalled that almost two years ago, they lost the election by a razor-thin margin-less than 20,000 votes.

According to him, he conceded not because of his weakness, but because he was strong enough to put Liberia first and therefore, chose peace over conflict, constitution over chaos and democracy over division.

He believes that in doing so, they proved to the world that the CDC is not just a political party, but a disciplined movement of patriots and peace-lovers.

“But what have we seen since then? We have seen a government that rode to power on the back of false promises and deceptive slogans-talking about “rescue” while sinking the country deeper into poverty, fear, and hopelessness. We have seen a systematic erosion of democracy: Executive overreach and open disregard for our Constitution. Lawlessness in the Legislature, with the presidency turning a blind eye, even when the sacred halls of our democracy go up in flames. And to our opponents: “We see your failure – and we are coming to fix it”, he says.

Former President Weah had never bent his head on his intention to return to the Executive Mansion, official home of the Liberian Presidency. He was confined to a one term by the now ruling UP.

But the former Liberian leader alleges that under the Unity Party government, state security forces are brutalizing peaceful citizens, while millions are being spent on so-called “operations” that offer no protection for ordinary Liberians.

He notes that they (UP) said CDC was the problem, but now, the Liberian people can see for themselves and “THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE UNITY PARTY THAT IS NOW IN POWER!”

“Because, when our time comes and it WILL come – we must be ready not just to win, but to govern better. We must correct the wrongs, improve the system, and restore the dignity of the Liberian people. So let’s unite. Let us rise. Let us believe. Let’s build. And to all our young people, I say: Stay focused. Stay clean. Stay strong. To our women: You are the backbone of this movement. Keep rising.

To our elders: Your wisdom is still needed. Stay with us”, Weah urges.

He expresses gratitude to loyal partisans for their participation in the dollar rally, aimed at reawakening the Coalition ahead of 2029.
