Africa-Press – Liberia. Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has reaffirmed the Boakai administration’s strong commitment to improving the working conditions and welfare of civil servants across the country.
Ngafuan made the assertion Tuesday when he served as keynote speaker at the induction ceremony of officers-elect of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Workers Association (MOFAWA), held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia.
“This year, the government made salary top-ups for more than 28,000 civil servants in the health, education, police, and judiciary sectors,” Minister Ngafuan said. “This is a clear demonstration of President Boakai’s commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of civil servants.”
The former Foreign Minister, who once served as Dean of the Cabinet, emphasized that the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai values the tireless service of public workers and continues to place their welfare at the center of national development.
He noted that conditions within most government entities have notably improved since the administration took office in January 2024, describing it as a signal of “better days ahead” for civil servants and the general population.
Ngafuan added that President Boakai is personally “impatient with delays” and remains determined to fast-track major development priorities, including road infrastructure, electricity, education, and water supply.
“Politicians win during election years, but the people should win every other year,” he said, calling on Liberians to set aside political divisions and work together to support the country’s development agenda.
Addressing the newly inducted officers of MOFAWA, Minister Ngafuan charged them to uphold integrity, professionalism, and servant leadership in their new roles.
“You must be double ambassadors—representing your fellow workers with honor, and serving as a constructive bridge between the workforce and the ministry’s management,” he advised.
He encouraged the association’s leadership to ensure that their advocacy and engagement always align with the broader goals of the institution and the country.
Minister Ngafuan also praised the staff of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, for their instrumental role in collaborating with Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti to secure Liberia’s historic election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
“That victory was not won by one ministry alone,” he noted. “It was a collective effort that proves when Liberians work together, nothing is impossible.”
He hailed Minister Nyanti as an “excellent addition to President Boakai’s Cabinet”, underscoring her leadership in delivering a milestone that has elevated Liberia’s global diplomatic standing.
Making special remarks at the ceremony, Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti described the democratic election and induction of MOFAWA’s leadership as a positive reflection of the ministry’s culture of accountability and participation.
“This election shows that democracy is not only practiced at the national level but also within our institutions,” Minister Nyanti said. “I commend all of you for your dedication to duty and commitment to this institution.”
Those inducted to the MOFAWA’s leadership include: Mr. Samuel Saah Borbor, Sr.- President, Mr. Oddyessus Gwoleh Brown- Vice President, Mrs. Elvera M.F. Tarr-Secretary General, amongst others.
