Africa-Press – Liberia. The Civil Society Governance Consortium, including Naymote Partners for Democratic Development, the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), and the Center for Democratic Governance (CDG), has successfully concluded a week-long joint dialogue on anti-corruption, local governance, and revenue sharing to ensure efficient and accountable local governance.

The dialogues were organized under the Strengthening Political Governance and Accountability in Liberia project, funded by the Government of Ireland through Irish Aid, from June 11–16, 2025.

The events brought together 150 local stakeholders -50 each per county -including the county administration, county council members, county service centers, chiefs, media, civil society leaders, persons with disabilities (PWDs), women, and youth leaders, representatives of County Health Team, County Education Office, Liberia Revenue Authority in Grand Bassa, Margibi and Bong Counties.

Participants gained a deeper understanding of anti-corruption frameworks and best practices, including reporting and follow up mechanisms and tools, the significance of local governance, the county councils, fiscal rules, and the revenue sharing law in advancing accountable democratic local governance.

During the dialogues, participants acknowledged the vital role that local government plays in effective service delivery, the full implementation of the county development agenda, encouraging citizens participation, and fostering inclusive development at the grassroots level.

They appreciated the consortium for hosting such event and called for a more responsive governance system that addresses their needs and encourage local ownership and involvement through an effective and efficient county councils. Participants want stronger action taken on GAC audit report’s recommendations, LACC investigations reports, and implementation of the County Development Agendas and a transparent county’s budget process.

With the knowledge gained, participants promised to report any acts of corruption through the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission’s Talkay App, CENTAL’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Center and Hotline: 4432 and other mechanism.

Additionally, the CSO Consortium has trained and established advocacy teams in the three project counties who are leading anti-corruption campaigns, ensuring adherence to the revenue cost sharing policy, effective county councils and transparent budget process.

Citizens are also using their skills and knowledge from the project to demand responsive local governance, actively engaged with community meetings and radio talk show to peacefully discuss the county development agenda and demanding county councils to be a voice for the people not government, and conduct regular public hearings, as the development of these counties depends on a strong and independent county councils.
