Malaikah Unveils 950MW Energy Project for Liberia

Africa-Press – Liberia. In a significant boost to Liberia’s long-standing efforts to resolve its electricity crisis, Spanish energy giant Malaikah Energy Group has announced a groundbreaking 950-megawatt power project set to launch in 2026.

The initiative is poised to dramatically expand access to electricity across the country, particularly in underserved communities where chronic blackouts and unreliable supply remain a daily challenge. The project is seen as a pivotal step in driving Liberia’s economic and social transformation.

Liberia continues to grapple with inadequate grid infrastructure and limited generating capacity, factors that have stifled national progress for decades.

In response, Malaikah Energy Group is partnering with the Liberian government to spearhead a comprehensive electrification drive.

Specializing in solar photovoltaics, wind, hybrid systems, energy storage, and green hydrogen, Malaikah aims to introduce a robust and sustainable energy framework in the country.

Company CEO Florentino Puentes Agulla revealed that the firm, in collaboration with fellow Spanish company CEFYCAL Energy Group, will roll out a nationwide plan to deliver cleaner, more reliable power.

Financing for the project will be primarily provided by an American financial group, while Liberia will gradually repay its share through structured government contributions. Within two years of the project’s commencement, Montserrado County is expected to be fully electrified.

Rather than requiring upfront payments from clients, Malaikah employs a long-term sustainability model that recoups investment through energy cost savings. The group also offers comprehensive services in energy engineering, environmental marketing, and sustainability consulting aimed at improving efficiency and reducing overall consumption.

As part of its commitment to local development, the Madrid-based firm will establish training and maintenance programs, along with international scholarship opportunities for Liberian students pursuing careers in electrical engineering and renewable energy.

“We want to be a driving force in transforming Liberia’s energy landscape,” said Agulla, citing the company’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and its broader mission to lead renewable energy expansion across Europe, Africa, and Latin America by 2030.

The landmark deal was facilitated by prominent Liberian businessman Ibrahim Traore, who praised Malaikah’s proven track record in delivering power solutions across Southern Africa. “Their work has brought real stability to many power-challenged countries. Liberia stands to gain enormously,” he noted, emphasizing his personal advocacy in securing the agreement.

If successfully implemented, the project promises to close Liberia’s energy gap, create jobs, cut carbon emissions, and fuel inclusive growth throughout the nation.
