IAA Denies Corruption Allegations in Vehicle Rental

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Internal Audit Agency (IAA) has dismissed recent media allegations of corruption regarding a vehicle rental contract, describing the reports as “misleading and unfounded.”

In a press statement issued recently, the IAA clarified that it legally entered into a short-term, renewable agreement with E-12, a registered Liberian-owned company, for vehicle rental services.

The contract, which ran from April to June 30, 2025, set the rental fee at US$65 per day and applied only to days when the vehicle was used. According to the agency, this amounted to a maximum of US$1,950 per month.

The IAA emphasized that the contract did not include payments for unused days, driver salaries, or vehicle maintenance. It described E-12’s performance as “excellent,” and noted that gratuity given to the driver was based on positive staff feedback and not part of the contractual terms.

The agency confirmed that E-12’s contract ended on June 30 and that a new service provider has since been hired under the same conditions. The IAA explained that the non-renewal of E-12’s contract was due to procurement rules limiting contract durations and not because of performance concerns.

Addressing the circulation of internal documents on social media, the IAA stated that the materials were removed without authorization.

It urged the public to approach such information with caution and encouraged media outlets to seek clarification before publishing sensitive content.

The agency also revealed that from October 2022 to June 2025, it operated without a utility vehicle and lacked the budget to purchase one. During this period, the IAA relied on short-term rentals to support operations such as transporting auditors and delivering documents to the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.

“It is important to emphasize that the contracts in question were legitimately awarded and duly signed by the Deputy Director General for Administration with the full approval of the Director General, who, as head of the institution, takes full responsibility for all procurement actions undertaken,” the statement said.
