Africa-Press – Liberia. According to Representative Gleekia, the push to secure more inclusion for District #6 in the national budget was a core electoral promise.

Representative Dorwohn Twain Gleekia of District #6 has unveiled a comprehensive update on his achievements over the past one year and five months, marking significant strides in development, community empowerment, and national policy contributions.

The update reflects the fulfillment of campaign promises made during the 2023 elections, with a particular focus on increasing budgetary support and restoring equitable national investment in his district.

According to Representative Gleekia, the push to secure more inclusion for District #6 in the national budget was a core electoral promise. “We watched for six years as others benefited from the national budget. And I believe it is time for us to change that narrative and ensure our people receive their fair share,” he stated.

Strong Footprint at the National Level

At the heart of Representative Gleekia’s legislative accomplishments is his active role as Co-Chair on the Revenue, Ways, Means and Finance Committee. In that capacity, he has been instrumental in domestic revenue mobilization efforts, helping to shape Liberia’s ambitious billion-plus dollar national budget.

A key national-level victory came with the ratification of a loan agreement for the purchase of earth-moving equipment a move designed to accelerate infrastructure development in rural areas. He also worked closely with the Senate to achieve concurrence on two important legislative acts: the establishment of the Gbea-Gblor Administrative District and the Tappita Vocational Training Center, both of which are expected to enhance administrative efficiency and youth skills development not just in his district but in Nimba.

Through his advocacy, the County Social Development Fund allocated over $100,000 toward the completion of the legislative earmarked project known as the Presidential Palace and $400,000 for the renovation of the Tappita Civil Compound. Additionally, the FY2024 national budget included $37,000 for district development out of which, $30,000 supported the completion of the first-ever Tappita City Hall, a historic milestone for the city. Representative Gleekia further lobbied and secured $15,000 allocation to enhance the operational capacity of the Tappita City Corporation.

Boosting the Health Sector

Healthcare has been a cornerstone of Representative Gleekia’s development vision. One of his most notable achievements is the budget increase for the Jackson F. Doe Referral Hospital, now raised from $2.1 million to $3,179,417. This increment has greatly improved the hospital’s capacity to deliver specialized services to patients from across Liberia and neighboring countries.

He also ensured national budgetary support for several local health facilities, including the New Yorpea Clinic, Gblor Diallah Clinic, Toweh Town Clinic, and Grenpea Clinic, support that is critical for extending healthcare access to remote communities.

Advancing Educational Access

In education, Representative Gleekia has prioritized both infrastructure and financial aid for students. Under his leadership, the district’s student organization opened a dedicated account with an initial deposit of $7,000, balance of the $37,000 from the FY2024 allotment for district development, with an additional $10,000 sourced from the County Social Development Fund. These funds are earmarked for scholarships, student activities, and educational support programs.

More than 30 students from the district are now benefiting directly from Representative Gleekia’s scholarships to attend Nimba University and the University of Liberia. Furthermore, the national budget now provides support to Tarpeh Memorial High School, Beatou Public School and Ma Hawa Public School. The Representative has also made a personal contribution to the ongoing self-help construction of the Kparblee High School, a community-led initiative aimed at expanding access to secondary education.

Investing in Communities

Infrastructure development at the community level has seen a major boost under Representative Gleekia’s leadership. Several community halls have been constructed, including the Bye-pass Community Peace Hall and Cassava Farm Community Peace Hall in Tappita City, as well as the Vahn Town Peace Hall. These facilities now serve as safe spaces for dialogue, meetings, and social gatherings.

In addition, the Segbeh Town School is being constructed to cater to the growing demand for primary education in the area. Other key projects include the construction of the Diallah Clinic staff building, the Power Station community bridge in Tappita City, and police stations in both Toweh Town and Old Yorpea. These facilities are improving safety, access to services, and community cohesion.

He has also extended support to youth engagement and faith-based initiatives, including assistance to the Catholic vacation camping program, aimed at instilling values and leadership in young people.

Driving Connectivity and Roads Development

One of the most consistent priorities for Representative Gleekia has been the follow-up on the Saclepea-Tappita road construction. As communities long for the completion of this strategic road corridor, the Representative has been engaging relevant authorities to ensure the pavement extends to Tappita as scheduled. This road, when completed, will dramatically reduce travel time, enhance trade, and open up economic opportunities for the district.

A Leadership of Results

With a record that spans infrastructure, healthcare, education, policy, and youth empowerment, Representative Dorwohn Twain Gleekia is demonstrating what it means to be a results-driven leader. His achievements reflect a governance style rooted in inclusion, accountability, and service to the people.

As District #6 continues to experience transformation, the momentum built over the past year and five months in a second term signals that under Representative Gleekia’s stewardship, the community is poised for even greater accomplishments in the years ahead.

“Inasmuch as I am alive, I believe that it is a privilege to serve our people and will do everything in my power to continue to be a voice for our people and ensure that the situation on the ground is improved” for the benefit of all of us, he concluded.
