Africa-Press – Liberia. The Liberia Bodybuilding & Fitness Association (LBFA) has received its first official invitation to participate in the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) World Cup, scheduled for September 11–15 in Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain.
This historic invitation paves the way for two Liberian athletes—Dave Momo Jr. (Men’s Physique) and Alonso Harmon (Classic Bodybuilding)—to compete on an international stage alongside participants from over 40 countries.
The LBFA confirmed Liberia’s participation on July 11, noting that Momo and Harmon will be the first Liberian athletes to compete at the global level in these bodybuilding categories.
“This is more than just a competition; it’s a defining moment for Liberian sports,” said Junda Morris, President of the LBFA. “Our athletes are ready to showcase the discipline, strength, and pride of Liberia on one of the world’s biggest fitness stages.”
Liberia’s inclusion in the 2025 IFBB World Cup follows years of development efforts and strategic engagement led by the LBFA under Morris’s leadership. The country is now officially recognized on the IFBB international competition circuit, marking a significant step forward for West Africa’s presence in global bodybuilding and fitness.
Both athletes have prepared under difficult conditions, facing limited access to training resources. Despite the challenges, they have reached international standards and were officially invited by the IFBB headquarters—an achievement the LBFA considers both a personal victory for the athletes and a national milestone.
Their participation is also viewed as a symbol of progress for Liberian sports diplomacy, as the national flag will be raised among more than 40 participating nations in Spain.
The LBFA believes this breakthrough can attract international partnerships, coaching opportunities, and sponsorships for gyms and training centers in Liberia. The association is appealing to government institutions, corporate sponsors, and the Liberian diaspora for support, specifically to cover costs related to travel, training, nutrition, and accommodation.
“We believe this will spark a new era for youth involvement in fitness and wellness,” Morris added. “Our goal is to make bodybuilding a source of national pride, just like football and athletics.”
