Africa-Press – Liberia. The Bong County Technical College (BCTC) on Saturday held its fourth commencement convocation, graduating a total of 122 students. The event, held under the theme “Endurance,” celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2024/2025.
Delivering the keynote address, President Joseph Boakai called on the graduates to use their education as a tool to help rebuild and transform Liberia. He emphasized the role of integrity, vision, and courage in national development.
“Liberia needs you. Your country is calling on you to lead with integrity, courage, and imagination,” President Boakai said. “Be bold. Be visionary. Use your skills not just for personal success, but to serve your nation.”
The president said his administration is focused on performance, accountability, and public service, and he expressed hope that the graduating class would become a vital part of Liberia’s transformation.
He reminded them of the words of Nelson Mandela, saying, “Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world.”
“The nation you inherit today needs builders, engineers, innovators, and doers—and that is exactly who you are,” he added. “As you step into the world with your diploma in hand, remember that you are carrying more than a certificate. You are carrying the hopes of your family, the pride of your community, and the expectations of a nation.”
President Boakai reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring that skilled young Liberians benefit from national economic growth, investment, and resource development. He also stressed the importance of establishing a strong middle class grounded in skills and national pride.
As part of this vision, the president proposed the purchase of land to construct a larger BCTC campus and reiterated plans to transform the college into a full-fledged university.
“No nation can rise without its youth. No economy can thrive without skills. And no dream can be fulfilled without hard work,” Boakai said. “I urge you to never forget that your education is both a privilege and a call to duty.”
He praised the leadership of BCTC President Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, noting improvements such as national accreditation for key programs, the expansion of academic offerings, and the development of a bold strategic vision.
Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, in his remarks, congratulated the graduates and commended their perseverance, referring to them as the “Endurance Class.” He emphasized that the college remains committed to developing ethical and competent leaders who can contribute to Liberia’s advancement.
“You are well-prepared to lead, serve, and drive meaningful progress,” Dr. Taikerweyah said. “Let the knowledge you’ve gained serve as a catalyst for building a stronger, more resilient nation.”
He urged graduates to hold firmly to integrity as they prepare to serve their communities and the nation, noting that one’s legacy is often shaped by how they respond to moments of responsibility.
The 2025 commencement marked another milestone in BCTC’s ongoing transformation, as both national leaders and college officials reaffirmed their shared vision for expanding access to quality technical and higher education in Liberia.
