Maryland Joint Security Welcomes AFL at First Meeting

Africa-Press – Liberia. The Joint Security Enforcement Team of Maryland County held its first monthly meeting on Friday, July 31, 2025, at the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) local office. The meeting marked a significant development as it welcomed newly deployed members of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) to work alongside existing security agencies in strengthening law enforcement across the county.

The gathering brought together key representatives from the Region 5 Liberia National Police (LNP), county heads of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Prison Security personnel, and other security stakeholders.

Abdul Jallahquay, Chairman of the Maryland County Joint Security and County Commander of the LIS, told FrontPage Africa via phone on Sunday evening that the meeting was primarily organized to formally welcome the AFL and to foster enhanced collaboration among the various security agencies operating in Maryland County.

“It was an acquaintance’s meeting to discuss key issues aimed at improving the operations of the joint security in Maryland County,” Jallahquay explained.

According to Jallahquay, the AFL’s new deployment focuses particularly on policing the county’s waterways, including the Cavalla River and the Atlantic Ocean. Some AFL personnel have also been stationed at strategic points along the Liberia–Côte d’Ivoire border near the Cavalla River. These officers will work on rotational shifts and closely coordinate with the Border Patrol Marine Unit to ensure heightened security in the region.

Echoing the spirit of cooperation, County LDEA Commander Moses Birr urged residents through a Facebook post to actively support security efforts by reporting any criminal activities in the area.

Region 5 Chief of Operations of the LNP, J. Max Roberts, praised the strengthened partnership, emphasizing that “strong collaboration among security agencies is the key to reducing crime and ensuring the safety of every resident in Maryland County.”

This joint security initiative aims to boost border security, reduce illegal activities, and improve overall law enforcement effectiveness within Maryland County.
