Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberia’s largest inter-school sporting festival is entering its most exciting phase as 14 high schools from five regions have booked their places in the Regional Championship of the 2025 National High School Football and Kickball Championship.
The qualifiers emerged after weeks of fierce county-level competitions, with the Montserrado County leg of the championship set to kick off this week.
In Lofa County, Free Pentecostal Global Mission School (Football) and Voinjama Multilateral High School (Kickball) punched their tickets to the next stage after overcoming Voinjama Free Pentecostal Mission and Bolahun Public High School, respectively — sealing Region 1’s representatives.
The National Championship group stage begins Wednesday, August 13, with matches across four venues: SKD Practice Field, TUSA Field, Slipway Field, and Alpha Field. Thirty-two schools will battle in football and kickball for county bragging rights and a place in the national finals.
National Finals & Grand Prize
Regional winners will converge in Montserrado for the grand showdown, where the champions will walk away with US$7,000, medals, a trophy, and an all-expense-paid international trip to either Ghana or Nigeria (Football). Runners-up will receive US$5,000, while the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in each discipline will earn US$1,000 and additional prizes from sponsors.
About the Tournament
Organized by National High School Sports, the annual championship uses sports as a tool to boost school enrollment and promote national unity. Since its launch in 2017, the event has grown to include over 150 schools nationwide, making it the biggest inter-school sporting competition in Liberia.
With Montserrado’s showdown set to ignite the group stage, anticipation is high over which school will claim national glory.
