Africa-Press – Liberia. Monrovia-LISCR Football Club, one of Liberia’s most decorated football sides, has officially accepted an invitation to represent the country at the 4th Edition of the West Africa Champions Cup, scheduled to take place in Conakry, Guinea from August 31 to September 6, 2025.

The Shipping Boys, as they are famously known, will be Liberia’s lone representative at the prestigious regional tournament.

Their participation comes at a pivotal moment for the club, which is now under new technical leadership and determined to bounce back from a disappointing 2024/2025 season that saw them finish trophyless, a rare outcome for the ambitious outfit.

“We’re coming into this tournament with a point to prove,” said a senior LISCR official. “Last season didn’t go the way we wanted, but we’ve reset, regrouped, and now we’re ready to return to winning ways starting in Guinea.”

Hunting Redemption on Regional Stage

LISCR’s invitation to the West Africa Champions Cup is both an honor and a challenge. The club will square off against some of the region’s most powerful sides, including: Horoya AC – Guinean Champions,Haifa FC – Guinean Runners-Up, Stade Malien – Champions of Mali, Djoliba AC – Milan Runners-Up, Rahimo FC – Champions of Burkina Faso

The tournament, known for its fierce level of competition and high-profile exposure, offers LISCR the perfect platform to reignite their championship mentality and get early momentum ahead of the LFA First Division season.

“We see this as more than preparation; it’s a statement of intent,” the club added. “We’re not just going to participate; we’re going to compete and win.”

New Coach, New Philosophy

Adding even more intrigue to LISCR’s campaign is the arrival of a new head coach, whose identity the club is expected to reveal in the coming days. The Champions Cup will be his first major assignment, offering a critical opportunity to analyze his players, test formations, and instill a new tactical identity.

“This is an important opportunity for the new coach to see the team in a real competitive environment,” a club source told FrontPage Africa Sports. “It’s not just about silverware, it’s about building chemistry, evaluating talent, and setting the tone for the new season.”

The Shipping Boys, as they are famously known, will be Liberia’s lone representative at the prestigious regional tournament.

With pressure already mounting to return to the top of Liberian football, LISCR fans will be hoping that the coach can quickly stamp their authority and reignite the fire that made the Shipping Boys one of the most feared clubs in the LFA First Division.

Platform for Exposure and Growth

The West Africa Champions Cup, now in its fourth edition, aims to strengthen regional football ties, promote talent across borders, and provide clubs with top-tier international exposure. For LISCR’s players, especially rising stars and new signings, the tournament presents a priceless chance to catch the eye of scouts and national team selection.

The matches will be hosted at top venues in Conakry, with LISCR FC expected to announce its traveling squad in the coming week. The club is also expected to organize a series of closed-door training sessions before departing for Guinea.
