Africa-Press – Liberia. Ganta, one of Liberia’s rapidly growing cities has witnessed a remarkable surge in development activities, largely driven by the local business community.
While government-led infrastructure projects have been limited, the private sector, particularly the Ganta Business Association has stepped up to play a pivotal role in transforming the city’s landscape.
On a daily basis, massive construction and improvement efforts are underway throughout Ganta, with new hotels, guest houses, entertainment centers, gas stations and other commercial enterprises springing up across the city.
These developments are helping to elevate Ganta’s status as a thriving economic hub in Nimba County and beyond.
Local Businesses Leading the Charge
One standout example is the Justina Bar and Restaurant, owned by Madam Justina Yormie and Mr. Teto Yormie, which has become a flagship business facility in Ganta. Madam Yormie shared with FrontPage Africa(FPA) that her establishment has created job opportunities for over 40 young people, helping them support their families while contributing to the city’s economy.
Her vision extends beyond the current business, as she plans to expand into the hotel industry soon.
Madam Yormie also appealed to the government for greater support, especially in the form of loans and contracts to empower the business community.
She emphasized that such support would enable local entrepreneurs to grow their ventures, ultimately assisting the government in achieving its broader development objectives.
In anticipation of a major event, Madam Yormie announced that the official inauguration of her new modern bar, the “VIP Barr,” is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025. The facility is expected to draw a large crowd from across the city.
City Leadership Acknowledges Business Contributions
Ganta City Mayor, Samuel Saye Hardt Sr., who visited the Justina Bar and Restaurant ahead of the official opening, praised Madam Yormie and other local entrepreneurs. He referred to them as “city builders” whose investments boost the pride and living standards of Ganta’s residents.
“My business community in Ganta makes us proud,” Mayor Hardt remarked. “They add immense value to the living conditions of our people by actively participating in development activities across various communities in the city.”
The private sector’s impact goes beyond hospitality and entertainment.
A prominent figure in Ganta’s health sector, Adolphus Andrews, owns Andrews Pharmacy, widely recognized as one of the city’s best equipped medical facilities.
Mr. Andrews highlighted the pharmacy’s role in addressing critical health challenges faced by residents.
While optimistic about expanding his business to new regions, Mr. Andrews voiced concerns regarding competition from foreign-owned pharmacy companies.
He explained that many foreigners involved in the local pharmacy trade operate both as wholesalers and retailers, a practice that puts local pharmacists at a disadvantage due to the oversupply of sellers relative to buyers.
He has called on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to regulate this trend to protect local businesses.

Alphanso Glaydor is a young entrepreneur making waves in the hotel, bar and restaurant business, contributing significantly to Ganta’s evolving hospitality industry.
