Africa-Press – Liberia. Liberian referees are steadily gaining recognition on the continental football stage, with several officials recently appointed to key assignments by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the West African Football Union (WAFU-A).

CAF has named three Liberian officials to officiate the CAF Champions League preliminary round match between Benin’s DADJE FC and Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli.

The game is scheduled for Friday, September 19, at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Togo.

Washington Dolo will serve as the central referee, with Joel W. Doe as Assistant Referee 1 and Moses B. Johnson as the Fourth Official.

Sierra Leone’s Mamoud A. Conteh will serve as the other Assistant Referee. This marks another milestone for Doe, who has previously officiated in CAF Confederation Cup matches and WAFU tournaments, solidifying his reputation as one of Liberia’s top referees.

Additionally, WAFU-A has appointed Liberian referees Sylvia Garnett and Tracy Chayee among the match officials for the upcoming WAFU-A U17 Girls’ Tournament, scheduled to be held in Liberia from September 18 to 25.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) President, Mustapha Raji, praised the appointments, describing them as a “testament to the professionalism, discipline, and dedication of our referees, and the continuous efforts of the LFA to develop officiating at all levels.”

He urged the officials to continue setting high standards and representing Liberia with pride on international stages.

The success is attributed to Liberia’s refereeing development programs, which have been central to these achievements.

Over the past decade, the LFA has organized regular training workshops, mentorship programs, and certification courses to ensure referees are well-prepared for both domestic and international duties.

The programs focus not only on the technical rules of football but also on fitness, decision-making, and professional conduct.

These recent appointments underscore Liberia’s growing presence in continental football officiating and provide an opportunity for its referees to showcase their expertise on some of Africa’s biggest stages, inspiring a new generation of officials across the country.
